Individual Sessions (one-on-one)
In a session:
- Expect your session to last 45 to 60 minutes.
- You are fully clothed.
- You might be lying down, sitting, or standing. We use a low padded table that is sturdy and wide for sitting and lying down.
- You are wearing loose comfortable clothing so you can move.
- I always want to know that you are comfortable.
In the Feldenkrais Method®, these sessions are called “lessons” because I am actually teaching your body an easier way to move.
To begin, I will ask how you are feeling and listen to you describe what you are experiencing, what brings you to see me, and what you might want to learn. As part of my assessment, I might ask you to sit, stand, or walk in the room as you are able. I look for patterns of movement and posture. Then, I work with your central nervous system to educate your body/brain in new ways to move.
It is a gentle process and not forced. My clients say that it is a pleasant experience and very different from massage.
If you ever feel any discomfort, I want to know so we can change what we are doing and calm your nervous system before proceeding. I will explain as we go and we always go at whatever pace works for you. Often we work very slowly to give your brain time to process the input it is getting.
Most of the time you will feel relaxed and supported by strategically placed pillows and structural supports, like foam bolsters, rollers, and pads that you might see in a gym. We work together to teach you a new way to move your body with greater ease, efficiency, fluidity, and less pain.
If you are checking out Feldenkrais® for the first time, I recommend doing 3 sessions to determine if this is helpful to you.
