About Feldenkrais

What is the Feldenkrais Method®?

The Feldenkrais Method® is a method of learning using movement that keeps mind, body, and emotion integrated. Moshe Feldenkrais (physicist, engineer, and black belt in Judo) developed this method from the 1940s to 1980s.

Feldenkrais is a method of teaching your nervous system new movement patterns that:
. Make your daily tasks easier, less painful, better balanced, and more efficient.
. Improve your performance in athletic, acting, singing, dance, and other high-level pursuits.
. Gently balance the excitability of your nervous system which may mean moving your body out of a spiraling crisis mode (fight or flight/pain) or decreasing a sense of fatigue.
. Make use of the newer concepts of mindfulness and neuroplasticity that Moshe Feldenkrais discovered.

How does the Feldenkrais Method® fit in the big picture of your Health Care and fitness?

As a physical therapist who practices the Feldenkrais Method®, I am often asked if this work will replace or complement the health care you receive from other care providers, such as orthopedists, chiropractors, personal trainers including pilates, yoga and massage therapists. These care providers work primarily with bones, muscles, and connective tissue. As a Feldenkrais Practitioner®, I am working primarily with all aspects of the nervous system. I find that the Feldenkrais Method® enhances and supports your experience with other care providers and I am happy to communicate with your care team if that would be helpful to you.

This work can also clarify an aspect a problem you are facing so that you can advocate for your care more easily.
